Carol Pedigree McConnell and Terry McConnell

Welcome. We are grateful that you've taken the time to visit our website.

We are Carol and Terry McConnell, husband and wife who have enjoyed better health and more energy since our studies and commitment to Breath-Body-Mind.

I share many life roles: a wife, mother, stepmother, sister, friend educator, health practitioner and student. I am a seeker and had the privilege of studying and graduating, later in life, from Smith College, Northampton, MA., as an Ada Comstock Scholar. From there I wrote and performed a one-woman show which had 25 years of success. This show gave me the experience of dancing, singing and being in the public eye which lead to being an educator, speaker, certified Ta’i Chi Instructor, a certified Zumba Gold Instructor and certified Coherent Breath Coach.

I have been teaching diaphragmatic breathing for the past ten years. I became Certified to teach Coherent Breathing, Breath-Body-Mind, through Patricia Gerbarg MD and Richard Brown MD in 2018-19 at Kripalu in Lenox, MA. along with my husband Terry McConnell. Our private practice is located in Shelburne Falls, MA. We also teach at Fitchburg State University and Holyoke Community College, the YMCA in Greenfield, MA. and via zoom by appointment.

Our Cells are Humming...

WHO CAN WE HELP? Our technique, Coherent Breathing, can help people with attention deficit disorder, anxiety, breathing problems, arthritis, high blood pressure, Parkinson's, and stroke. Many people live a large portion of their life with a nervous systen in fight or flight. The Coherent Breathing technique can move the nervous system toward a state of calmness and alertness.

BREATHE your way into life-altering experiences.

FEEL a radiant, new, inner atmosphere

THOUGHTS: Change repetitive negative thought patterns. Re-wire the brain, re-orient your breath. Massage your heart.

COMFORT/CONTROL body pain with inner vibrational sounding with this new brain-based therapy

CHRONIC PAIN although our primary focus is Coherent Breathng, we also introduce the theories and scientifically measured studies of John Sarno MD The Mindbody Prescription and Candace Pert, Ph.D. Molecules of Emotion.

When we are under stress, according to John Sarno MD, the body will create physical symptoms to divert attention from EMOTIONS that are going on inside which the BRAIN feels the MIND cannot handle. We help our students, through the process of Coherent Breathing, to recognize within themselves these emotions and their effects on the body. According to Candace Pert, molecules in our body respond to thoughts; this has been scientifically measured and proven. Every thought releases some kind of chemical. Positive thoughts decrease the hormone CORTISOL, which is detrimental to the body, allowing the brain to produce SERETONIN instead, creating a feeling of well being.

Work With Us

Our private practice is in Western Massachusetts.

We teach a cutting edge Breath-Heart-Brain-based technique.

If we are NOT using our diaphragm to breathe, studies show our nervous system is often in a fight or flight mode. This means our Nervous System is out of balance. Unfortunately, we are not aware of this until we get sick. This can manifest in any number of ways: tight muscles causing pain in our neck, shoulders, tightness in our chest, numbness in arms, hip/back pain, sciatica, heart fluttering, migraine headaches, sleeplessness, depression, anxious behavior, etc.

Being aware of our Breathing Habits is primary in keeping the body healthy.

As we become more aware of our breathing, we begin to notice more about ourselves and our behavior patterns. It is at this point we become aware of what we want to change and how. We also begin to notice our thought patterns and how they impact our lives.

In conjunction with Coherent Breathing, we work with the theories of John Sarno MD and Candace Pert, Ph.D. both of whom have revolutionized how we see medicine.

We work with people who want to engage themselves as managers of their own well-being, to reconnect with their inner wealth, unveiling their hidden potentials. Relaxing in their own skin.

Allow us to help you discover your true essence. Simply by using your breath, you will release the secret energy that wants to be found, that lights up your life in a myriad of ways. Learn how the way we breathe will fire neurons (nerves). Nerves that fire together, wire together. That is, once a negative thought pattern is established, that neuron will always fire when an event triggers a negative memory possibly resulting in pain or a physical ailment. These negative thought patterns can be replaced by positive ones leading to better health.

Terry McConnell

I spent 40 years as a professional educator working first as a middle school social studies teacher, then as a school librarian and finally as a special education worker. I also coached cross-country and track. After my retirement from the teaching profession, I began my writing career.

  • In 20015 I published a novel, "Route 1 Rendezvous" and "Running with Asthma: An Asthmatic Runners Memoir."
  • My biography of the first African American to play N.F.L. football, Bobby Marshall will soon be published by Nodin Publishing.

In 2019 I became certified as a teacher of "Breath-Body-Mind" breath training. My wife Carol Pedigree McConnell and I now offer workshops on breathing techniques based on the founders of "Breath-Body-Mind," Richard P. Brown, MD and Patricia Gerbarg, MD. These techniques can help your alertness, mood, endurance, and health. I am currently working toward a Ph.D. in exercise physiology.
